Here are some of our frequently asked questions . . .

What if the painting doesn’t get completed during my event? Totally normal — and expected! While our team keeps the energy high with guest engagement, gentle instruction, and plenty of witty banter, most collaborative paintings do not reach full completion during the event.

Afterward, we bring your piece back to our Boulder studio, where the real fine-art magic happens.

  • We refine all color layers

  • We add final details and touch-ups

  • We ensure the composition is polished and cohesive

  • We apply a professional, archival UV-protective varnish

Your finished painting becomes a museum-worthy heirloom with vibrancy that lasts for decades.

Do you have any special requirements for collaborative painting at the event? Yes — nothing complicated, just a comfortable space for creativity to flourish.

We ask for:

  • A minimum 6’ x 6’ area for our setup (Depending on canvas size, our footprint will increase)

  • Access to an outlet

  • A focal, easy-to-find location so guests naturally engage

We arrive at least one hour before your event begins to set the stage, prepare the palette, and create a welcoming, artistic environment for your guests.

How do we get our guests to participate in the collaborative painting? We’re pros at drawing guests in (pun intended). Our team is enthusiastic, warm, and highly engaging — but a little help from you makes participation even more magical.

Here’s what works beautifully:

  • Mention the painting on your wedding website

  • Add table signage inviting guests to paint

  • Have your MC make a friendly announcement

  • Send a fun group text to your guests

This ensures everyone knows where to find us — and that they’re invited to bring your masterpiece to life.

Where are you located, and do you travel out of state or internationally? We’re proudly based in Boulder, Colorado, and yes — we absolutely travel!

We bring collaborative painting to weddings and events throughout the U.S. and internationally. For events more than two hours from our studio, travel costs (airfare, hotel, mileage, transportation, and a travel stipend for meals + time) will be clearly itemized on your proposal for full transparency.

How long does it take to get our finished painting? Your masterpiece will be ready 12–24 weeks after your event, depending on our studio schedule and the complexity of your painting. We keep you updated throughout the entire post-event process so you always know where your artwork is in its finishing journey.

Is this an activity for kids? While the experience evokes childhood nostalgia (hello, paint-by-numbers!), collaborative painting is designed for adults and older kids. Younger children are welcome to participate with active adult supervision — especially since this is one moment where coloring inside the lines is essential for the final fine-art result. It’s not a rule for life… just for the painting.

How is Painting to the People different from ordering a paint-by-number kit online?

DIY kits simply cannot replicate the quality, scale, or experiential value of Painting to the People. They give you a small canvas, basic paints, and a pattern.

  • We deliver a luxury, fully-facilitated fine-art experience.

  • Large-format, gallery-depth wooden canvases with internal aluminum framing (not fabric stapled to a frame).

  • Custom backs with event details, signature space, and optional time-capsule note slot.

  • Expert photo conversion with bold, expressive color palettes designed with professional color theory.

  • We use professional liquid acrylics to custom mix the paint palette specifically for your portrait. These are fine-art pigments trusted by professional painters, not pre-mixed hobby paints from a kit.

  • Onsite facilitation so guests paint confidently (and no one draws mustaches after a champagne toast—trust us, weddings can get rowdy).

  • Up to 80 hours of post-event studio refinement plus archival UV varnish for a museum-worthy finish.

A kit is a product for a rainy afternoon.

PTTP is an unforgettable experience for life’s biggest moments.

How far in advance should we book? Because of the bespoke, high-touch nature of our process, we accept a limited number of bookings each year. We highly recommend reaching out as early as possible to secure your date — especially for peak wedding weekends and destination events.
